Davielquis Cortina Cobas, director of the Holguin Electric Company’s Dispatch Business Unit (UEB), reported that the connection was made via a 110-kilovolt (kV) line from the neighboring province of Las Tunas.
Fuel shortages prevented the planned creation of an isolated microsystem, so the full restoration will be gradual and complex given the country’s significant generation deficit.
This technological contingency is exacerbated by the shutdown of Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric power Plant (CTE) and Unit One of Lidio Ramon Perez (Felton) CTE, two of the nation’s largest power plants.
Cortina Cobas specified that circuits 12 and 20 in the capital city are currently receiving power, guaranteeing the operation of the four provincial hospitals.
Likewise, the drinking water pumping systems and communication services linked to these sectors were restored as a priority.
The strategic process includes advancing the heating of power lines to the municipality of Moa to incorporate its fuel oil plant, which will serve as a link to stabilize the system and progressively extend it to Santiago de Cuba and Granma.
