Dudan: More than 60 people killed in Kauda city

Khartoum, May 14 (Prensa Latina) New armed clashes in the Sudanese city of Kauda, South Kordofan state, have left more than 60 dead, according to medical sources.

The Sudanese Doctors organization reported that among the dead are nine children and five women as a result of a clash described as tribal in nature, in which rapes, extrajudicial executions, killings, burning of homes, and looting occurred.

The Sudanese city of Kauda is a stronghold of the so-called Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North-Al Hilu, a rebel group allied with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group. According to eyewitnesses, the clashes were against settlements of the Otoro tribe, also from the region.

Sources also pointed out that Al Hilu’s group, which joined the war as an ally of the RSF, is responsible for the violations committed against civilians in and around Kauda, and has called for immediate international intervention to protect them.

Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in an internal war, fueled by power struggles between the army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

The fighting has destroyed countless livelihoods, plunging the country into a complex spiral of hunger and death.
