The work, supported by public and private companies and community brigades, is modifying canals and ravines, which will also improve water flow and sanitary conditions in the city, amidst severe flooding and advanced deterioration of the urban environment, the source added.
Participating agencies include the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications and the companies Coamco, Bien Nettoyer, Le Nettoyeur, and Jepaba.
The operations include waste collection and cleaning in several neighborhoods of Cap-Haitien, such as Vertieres, Champin, Goya, Belotes, Petite-Anse, Riviere Gimalary, and Carrefour La Chaux, according to the Ministry of the Environment.
The current work, which involves the removal of 50,000 cubic meters of waste and sludge and includes several canals and ravines that haven’t been cleaned in ten years, is part of the first phase of the city’s restoration project, which will last between eight and ten weeks, according to sources.
