The initiative, which by May Day had been signed by more than six million people, constitutes Cuba’s response to the executive orders implemented by Donald Trump administration in an effort to force regime change in the country.
Prominent figures in the city delivered the lists with the signatures of residents from the different municipalities of the province to Mario Sabines, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Matanzas.
Gabriel Torres, director of the newspaper Giron, stated that the policy of suffocation against the country is an extraterritorial measure that violates the most basic rights.
Cuba is a nation of peace and open to respectful dialogue with any government in the world, although in the event of armed aggression, we will not hesitate for a second to defend our achievements at whatever cost, he commented.
Torres emphasized that the current context is the most unfavorable in recent decades, but the people will emerge victorious from this new battle against the revolution.
When the Trump administration hardens its policy against Cuba, the citizens raise the slogan: “The homeland will be defended.”
