Spain deplores Israel’s siege against Palestinians

Barcelona, May 15 (Prensa Latina) The director in Spain of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Raquel Marti, deplored Israel's siege of Palestinians.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Finestres Palestine Bookstore in Barcelona, the head of UNRWA in Spain said that the population in Gaza is in an “absolutely inhumane situation.” Raquel Marti called for reflection on the suffering of the Palestinian people and the human rights violations, and stated that since the ceasefire declaration, Israel has continued attacking the population in Gaza, with more than 800 victims, and also in Lebanon.

She added that Israel is also obstructing the entry of humanitarian aid, supplies, and products to combat the insect and rat infestations plaguing the population.

“Israel has destroyed all of Gaza’s infrastructure. The population lives crammed into areas where there is absolutely nothing—no water, no hygiene,” she said.

She lamented that Israel has no interest in advancing the peace plan and “not only does it continue its presence in Gaza, but what they call the Yellow Line—the area occupied by the Israeli army—is expanding every day.”

The UNRWA director condemned the “absolutely alarming” situation in the West Bank and denounced that Israel, taking advantage of what has happened in Gaza, has built more settlements and demolished infrastructure.
