At the well-attended meeting, organized by the All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO), the Cuban Foreign Minister detailed the difficult situation facing Cuba with the intensification of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
Before representatives of left-wing political parties in India and the diplomatic corps of several nations, Rodriguez referred to the devastating impact of the energy embargo imposed this year by President Donald Trump on Cuba’s electricity generation and its harm to the population.
He denounced that this situation affects transportation and medical services, and stated that it has doubled infant mortality in recent times, along with delays in surgical procedures for nearly one hundred thousand patients, including children. Rodriguez stated that the United States government publicly formalized for the first time an offer of humanitarian aid to Cuba, without clarifying whether it would be in cash or in kind, nor its destination, but emphasized that the best help the United States government could provide would be to de-escalate the energy, economic, commercial, and financial blockade. jdt/mem/lrd
