Mayor Mario Bergara, in a meeting with residents of the capital’s CH district, said that this is part of a strategy aimed at strengthening social inclusion policies and generating job opportunities for vulnerable sectors.
“We’re going to be part of employability solutions for homeless people,” the mayor stated.
He explained that the Uruguay Impulsa program, currently under parliamentary discussion, anticipates the incorporation of up to 1,200 people into temporary jobs within the Montevideo municipality for a period of four months.
The initiative already includes a specific quota for homeless people, although the departmental administration is considering expanding that participation.
He maintained that generating job opportunities is a central tool for addressing situations of social vulnerability and promoting integration processes.
The initiative complements the nationwide strategy designed by the government to assist homeless people, who are currently seeking refuge in shelters and evacuation centers due to the low temperatures. This operation involves various state institutions.
