Seven dead in hundred Israeli attacks on Lebanon

Beirut, May 16 (Prensa Latina) At least seven people were killed and six others wounded following a wave of approximately 100 Israeli attacks on several areas of southern Lebanon, in a further violation of the fragile ceasefire agreement in place since April.

According to reports from Lebanese state media, the escalation included airstrikes, artillery attacks, and drone strikes on various towns in the districts of Tyre, Sidon, Nabatieh, Bint Jbeil, and Marjeyoun. Among the victims were a paramedic, a woman, a former mayor, and several civilians.

One of the attacks in the town of Tayr Falsayh resulted in the deaths of a woman and her son, an emergency services worker, and left five others wounded.

Another bombing in Al-Abbasiya resulted in one death, while an attack on Tibnin killed Haidar Mouassi, former mayor of Aitaroun and current member of the municipal council.

Israeli aircraft reportedly carried out 53 attacks on three districts, which targeted homes, roads, agricultural areas, and residential zones.

Local sources also reported the use of phosphorus munitions in the attacks, despiste it is a weapon internationally banned due to its effects on civilians.

Israeli forces also issued evacuation orders for residents of nine towns, meanwhile drones and reconnaissance aircraft also flew over Beirut, its southern suburbs, and areas of the Baalbek-Hermel district.

The new escalation comes a day after the third round of US-brokered talks between Lebanon and Israel concluded in Washington, resulting in a 45-day extension of the ceasefire agreement.
