The meeting will continue as part of the coordination mechanisms leading up to the APEC leaders’ summit scheduled for November in Shenzhen.
Chinese authorities said the Shanghai event will review APEC cooperation for the first half of the year and seek to consolidate preliminary results for activities in the second half of 2026.
These senior officials’ meetings are the leading channel for preparing consensus and documents for the APEC leaders’ summits.
APEC holds four to five such meetings each year. The first of 2026 took place in February in the Chinese city of Guangzhou.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun previously stated that nearly 40 committee and working group meetings were held between before this event.
Guo noted that these meetings addressed issues such as trade and investment, economic and technological cooperation, and food security.
