When there are only 13 days for the elections, the same three candidates who have been leading in the polls for weeks continue to do so.
Ivan Cepeda, representative of the Pacto Historico (Historical Pact) progressive movement, plans to conclude his public activities with an event at Bolivar Square in Bogota on May 22, while far-right candidate Abelardo De la Espriella announced that he will hold rallies in Barranquilla on May 23 and in Medellin on May 24.
The campaign of right-wing Paloma Valencia, representative of the Centro Democratico (Democratic Center) party, confirmed that the main and final closing event will take place on May 24 at the Movistar Arena coliseum in this capital.
Although some analysts believe that due to the number of candidates, a runoff might be necessary, which would be held on June 21, Cepeda’s team aims to win in the first round, for which he must obtain 50 percent plus one of the valid votes.
Even if he does not have the necessary support to become president on May 31, judging by polls that place him between 35 and 40 percent of the vote, experts point out that he would have the necessary backing to advance to the runoff.
