G-7 Finance Ministers address war’s impacts

Paris, May 18 (Prensa Latina) France hosted a meeting of the group's finance ministers as part of its Group of Seven (G-7) presidency to discuss the consequences of the war in the Middle East and the search for economic balance.

Economy and Finance Minister Roland Lescure is hosting the two-day meeting at the Bercy headquarters, where representatives from Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the European Union (EU) will also analyze issues of access to “rare earth” and the challenge of China’s economic rise.

“We want to shows that multilateralism is useful and works,” Lescure said at the opening of the forum, where many are focused on the behavior of Washington, which, under the administration of US President Donald Trump, has distanced itself from its traditional allies and included them in its tariff crusade.

Among the issues expected to be discussed at the G-7 meeting is the crisis generated by the US and Israeli aggression against Iran and the Iranian country’s retaliatory selective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a route through which 21 percent of the world’s oil production passed daily before the start of the conflict on February 28.

Lescure promised to address at the meeting the aid to the sectors most affected by the war.
