According to the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim, Radan specified that among those arrested are 567 people allegedly linked to “revolutionary opposition groups.”
Iranian authorities intensified internal security measures after the outbreak of the regional conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel, which, according to Tehran, has left more than 3,000 dead since the end of February.
Iran responded to the attacks with military operations targeting US and Israeli objectives, as well as facilities it identified as Washington’s interests in several Arab countries in the region.
The military actions caused damage to civilian infrastructure and increased regional tensions, while international concern grew about an expansion of the conflict. A ceasefire brokered by Pakistan between the warring parties has been in effect since April 8.
However, the situation remains fragile following the failure of negotiations between Washington and Tehran and the subsequent imposition of a US blockade on Iranian ports, including those located in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran restricted maritime traffic through this strategic trade route to vessels that had previously coordinated with its authorities, a measure that increased international concern about the impact on global energy supplies and the rise in oil prices and global inflation.
