Israeli Army raids Southwest Syria and searches homes

Damascus, May 18 (Prensa Latina) The Israeli army entered the Syrian province of Quneitra, in the country's southwest, where it carried out raids and searches of several homes in a new violation of Syria's sovereignty.

According to the Syrian state-run channel Al-Ikhbariya, Israeli troops stormed the village of Al-Ashah, where they conducted a campaign of searches and raids during their incursion into the area.

As of now, Syrian authorities have not issued any official statements regarding the Israeli military operation.

According to press reports, the province of Quneitra has been the scene of at least 15 similar operations over the past week, including the establishment of checkpoints, home searches, and artillery bombardments.

These events unfold amidst persistent tensions between the two sides, despite recent statements by Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, who affirmed that negotiations with Israel are ongoing—albeit progressing with difficulty—due to Israel’s insistence on maintaining its presence within Syrian territory.

Following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024, Israel declared the collapse of the Separation of Forces Agreement signed in 1974 and occupied the buffer zone located within Syrian territory.

Since then, the Israeli army has intensified its military operations against Syria through airstrikes and ground actions, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to military installations and infrastructure within the Arab nation.
