Lao’s Minister of Public Security, Lieutenant General Vanthong Kongmany, met with Cambodia’s Minister of the Interior, Sar Sokha, in a meeting aimed at reviewing bilateral cooperation and signing a memorandum of understanding for 2026.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to combating cross-border crime, including online scams, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and arms smuggling, through greater coordination between law enforcement agencies.
As agreed, information sharing between security agencies and cooperation between border provinces will be strengthened to improve the prevention and suppression of illicit activities in the shared border area.
The memorandum establishes as priorities the strengthening of border coordination to facilitate legal travel, trade, and tourism, as well as the development of infrastructure and international checkpoints.
In the regional context, authorities noted that online scams continue to pose a growing threat in Southeast Asia, prompting greater cooperation among neighboring countries to combat organized criminal networks.
