The island’s government, however, would be willing to consider the $100 million offer from the United States, the publication added, referring to statements made days earlier by the head of the Havana government on the social network X.
“It would be possible,” the President stated at the time, “to mitigate the damage more easily and quickly by lifting or easing the blockade, since it is public knowledge that the humanitarian situation (on the island) is coldly calculated and provoked by Washington,” Le Nouvelliste added.
The Haitian newspaper noted that Cuba has suffered for more than six decades from various forms of pressure designed and boosted by the United States, exacerbated since the end of January by an energy blockade imposed by that country, which causes constant blackouts and serious material damage to the population.
