The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, expressed her deep concern for the journalists’ situation, while also calling for respect for international law in the treatment of humanitarian and press missions.
The journalists identified are Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai, from the newspaper Republika, and Andre Prasetyo Nugroho, from the newspaper Tempo, who were covering the solidarity initiative to the Gaza Strip.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at least 10 vessels that were part of the flotilla were intercepted by Israeli forces en route.
Authorities stated that the boats carrying the reporters remain missing, while they continue coordinating with other institutions to follow up on the case and ensure the safety of their citizens.
The Flotilla is defined as an international humanitarian initiative aimed at facilitating aid access to the population of Gaza amidst the crisis in the Palestinian enclave.
