Palestine appeals for aid amid health crisis caused by Israel

Ramala, May 23 (Prensa Latina) Palestinian Health Minister Majed Abu Ramadan appealed for international aid to address the crisis in the health sector caused by a lack of medicines, a situation that threatens the lives of patients and the wounded.

The current financial crisis, caused by the Israeli blockade, is affecting all components of the health system in the West Bank, including government and private hospitals, as well as suppliers of medicines and medical supplies, he stressed in a statement.

Given this situation, he called for global cooperation to “prevent the collapse of the health system.”

Speaking in Geneva at a symposium held during the 79th session of the World Health Assembly, Abu Ramadan warned of the total collapse of the Palestinian health system as a result of Israeli aggression.

The situation in the occupied territories is not only a health crisis or disaster, but a problem for all of humanity because it affects the survival of the Palestinian people, the protection of human dignity, and the defense of international law, he emphasized.

The official detailed the situation in the Gaza Strip after more than two years of bombings and ground incursions by the Israeli army, compounded by the siege, which limits the entry of food, drinking water, fuel, and medicine.

He also described heartbreaking scenes, such as children undergoing amputations without anesthesia, women giving birth without adequate medical care, and patients with cancer or chronic illnesses receiving no treatment.
