Chileans create support group for Cuba and advocate for peace

Santiago, Chile, May 24 (Prensa Latina) More than one hundred Chileans participated in the meeting of the Committee of Solidarity with Cuba, created in the capital city's Cerrillos district, to support the Caribbean nation currently facing the US blockade and threats of invasion.

“We are concerned that this empire could commit an act of aggression that would cause immense suffering for the peoples of Latin America,” said Luis Carlos Godoy, a member of the organizing group.

He explained that the committee includes people from various political and social sectors, as well as neighborhood associations, and its objective is to show solidarity with the Cuban people and government in the face of the onslaught from a military power like the United States.

“Our goal is to collect one ton of food in three months, primarily flour, noodles, and milk, to send to the island,” Godoy told Prensa Latina.

“We intend to collect one ton of food, mainly flour, noodles, and milk, to send to the island,” Godoy told Prensa Latina. Speaking at the event, Vivian Delgado, counselor at the Cuban embassy in Chile, explained the difficult situation facing her country, subjected to a 65-year blockade that was intensified by the executive order approved on January 29 by Donald Trump, which included an energy embargo.

She denounced that the fuel shortage affects all sectors, such as health, education, and transportation, and has a tremendous impact on the population, especially children, the elderly, and vulnerable people.

To this escalation of aggression was added a new executive order on May 1, imposing new sanctions, and a smear campaign against the leader of the revolution, Army General Raúl Castro, she added.
