Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning responded to press reports pointing at a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran to halt hostilities.
Mao affirmed that the conflict “should never have happened” and stated that there is no need to prolong the war.
The spokesperson noted that finding an early solution benefits both the United States and Iran, as well as countries in the region and the rest of the world.
The diplomat pointed out that the recent ceasefire and the exploration of negotiation mechanisms received the support of regional countries and the international community.
Mao underscored that “dialogue is the right path forward and a military means offers no way out.”
