Cuba reaffirms commitment to self-determination of peoples

Managua, May 26 (PL) Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to the self-determination and sovereignty of peoples during the Regional Seminar on Decolonization of the United Nations Special Committee (C-24).

The Cuban delegation highlighted the relevance of the meeting in the current international context, marked by the strengthening of neocolonialist interests and imperialist ambitions over nations.

The representatives of the Caribbean nation denounced the policy of extreme economic aggression implemented by the United States, including the “energy siege,” as well as the threats of military aggression against the island nation.

The delegation underscored, “It aims to ignore Cuba’s right to self-determination, to continue being a free and independent country, and keep on building its economic and social development.”

It also rejected what it described as “infamous lies and manipulations” directed against the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raul Castro.

It reaffirmed his conviction that Cuba will defend its sovereignty and independence “at any cost.”

The Cuban delegation remembered in its remarks that the decolonization process was one of the most significant transformations of the 20th century, enabling the self-determination and independence of many peoples and territories subjected to colonial domination.
