Cuban Baseball Elite League tinged by tight results

Havana, May 26 (Prensa Latina) The IV season of the Cuban Baseball Elite League enters its break and travel phase after completing its first half, with a tight standings and four semifinal berths fiercely contested.

BLike a chessboard where every move alters the balance, the championship exhibits increasing parity, with Industriales at the top with a 12-8 record, followed by Las Tunas (11-9), Artemisa (10-9), Mayabeque (10-10), Holguin (9-11), and Matanzas (7-12).

The day before, in the final game of the five-game series, the Havana Lions combined a 7-6 victory over Matanzas with a Las Tunas loss to take sole possession of first place, propelled by a decisive rally in the second inning capped by a grand slam from Felix Rodriguez.

Rodriguez himself drove in five runs, while Fher Cejas solidified his dominance on the mound with six quality innings, and Yunier Batista sealed the win with his sixth save in a Matanzas comeback that fell just short.

BAt Julio Antonio Mella Stadium, Artemisa defeated Las Tunas 7-4 in extra innings with a decisive home run by Harold Vazquez to tie the series and knock Las Tunas out of first place, while Mayabeque edged Holguin 9-8 in ten innings with timely hits from Yoasan Guillen and Yasiel Agete.

The team statistics paint a picture of a tournament of blazing offense and demanding pitching, with an overall batting average of .307, a high ERA of 6.03, and a respectable fielding percentage of .971, reflecting a spectacle with many ups and downs.

Las Tunas leads the league in scoring with 137 runs and 30 RBIs that were crucial in tying or taking the lead.    Holguin imposes its power with 32 home runs. Matanzas struggles on the mound with a 7.38 ERA, and Industriales, despite batting only .284, compensates with league-leading pitching (4.79 ERA), dominating opponents (.262 ERA), 96 strikeouts, and elite fielding percentage (.977 ERA).

On an individual level, Hanyelo Videt leads with a .483 batting average, a .548 on-base percentage, and a 1.165 OPS. Yasiel Gonzalez leads in home runs (10) and RBIs (26), Yaser Julio Gonzalez leads in slugging percentage (.730), while Fher Cejas leads in ERA (0.95) and strikeouts (18), Yunier Batista in saves (6), and Yosmel Garces and Enyer Fernandez in wins (3).

Thus, with numbers that feel like hinges on a tournament without a clear winner, the Elite League takes a breather before returning to a journey where each day can tip the scales for the contenders.
