International peace and security at UN Security Council

United Nations, May 26 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will hold a special session on international peace and security, convened by China, which holds the rotating presidency of the body this month.

The high-level ministerial meeting, chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, will have as its theme “Upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and strengthening the UN-centered international system.”

Wang will also participate in a meeting of the Group of Friends of Global Governance (GFGG) and will hold meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and foreign ministers from several countries during his stay in New York.

The Chinese diplomat will subsequently visit Canada on the invitation of Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand.

The UNSC is the leading body responsible for maintaining international peace and security, with the power to issue decisions that are binding on all member states.
