Qatar calls to prioritize diplomatic channels to avoid escalation

Doha, May 25 (Prensa Latina) Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, underscored the need to avoid an escalation in the Middle East and defended diplomatic solutions as the "optimal way" to address regional crises, the Amiri Diwan of Qatar informed.

The stance was expressed during a joint call between US President Donald Trump and several regional leaders to discuss the progress of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan; King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; King Abdullah II of Jordan; Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman; and Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir, along with members of the US administration, also participated in the call.

Emir Tamim stated “the importance of intensifying consultation and coordination among relevant nations” to strengthen regional and international stability.

He also stressed that reaching diplomatic solutions would allow the region to avoid “the repercussions of an escalation and its impact on peace and security.”

The call came after Trump announced that negotiations related to a potential agreement with Iran had progressed on most of their provisions, pending final arrangements with Tehran and other Middle Eastern countries.

The US president stated that the agreement would include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and other mechanisms aimed at reducing regional tensions.
