At the event, Catalina Olea, a member of the Central American Parliament, expressed her support for Havana and defended the right of peoples to sovereignty and self-determination, challenging any form of external imposition.
Representatives of farmers organizations from Samana affirmed that “Cuba is not alone” and called for an end to the restrictions and maximum pressure measures imposed by Washington, while also acknowledging the island’s historical support for the region.
For its part, the Alianza Pais Party, through its Women’s Area Coordinator, Lourdes Jose, condemned the U.S. blockade and called for dismantling narratives that, she said, seek to discredit the Cuban government.
Luis Alberto Chavez, a Cuban doctor residing in Samaná, read a statement from the Maximo Gomez Association, in which they rejected the recent accusations against the leadership of the Revolution and reiterated their condemnation of the blockade’s impact on the people, the threats of military aggression, and the oil embargo that increases suffering and damage.
The day concluded with a message from the Minister Counselor of the diplomatic mission, Luis Javier Baro, who thanked those present for their expressions of solidarity and reiterated the official position of the Cuban government regarding the tensions with the United States.
He asserted that the U.S. government constantly resorts to various pretexts and that the most recent one has impacted the people, “because they have tried to target” Army General Raul Castro, leader of the Revolution, with an accusation that lacks legitimacy.
