Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan reported that hostile drones struck Terminal 1 of the airport, in what he described as an act of aggression against Kuwaiti territory.
According to the official, the attack caused significant damage to airport facilities and injured several people, although he did not specify the number of injured.
Following the incident, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation activated emergency protocols, suspended departing flights, and ordered aircraft to be diverted to alternative airports until further notice.
Hours earlier, the Kuwaiti army had announced that its air defense systems were intercepting hostile missiles and drones targeting the country.
Kuwait had already reported similar attacks on May 28 and June 1, actions for which it blamed Iran.
For its part, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed to have launched attacks against US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain, in response to operations attributed to the United States against Iranian interests in the Strait of Hormuz.
The escalation is part of the open confrontation between Tehran, Washington, and Israel since the end of February, a conflict that, according to Iranian authorities, has caused thousands of casualties and increased instability in the Middle East.
