Russia reaffirms support for Cuba in face of unprecedented pressure

Moscow, Jun 3 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated in a congratulatory telegram addressed to former Cuban President Raul Castro that Russia expresses its firm solidarity and support for Cuba in the face of unprecedented external pressure on the island.

Lavrov, who sent the message to the leader of the Cuban Revolution on his 95th birthday, stated that, “in the context of the unprecedented external pressure facing the Cuban people, we reiterate our firm solidarity and support.”

The foreign minister added that Russia and Cuba will continue working “hand-in-hand” to strengthen cooperation and coordination in international forums, contributing to the construction of a fairer multipolar world order.

Lavrov also remembered with particular warmth his meetings with Raul Castro, as well as their frank and substantive conversations. “I wish him good health, inexhaustible spiritual strength, and well-being,” the head of the Russian diplomacy expressed.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 29 authorizing tariffs on imports from countries that supply oil to Cuba and declared a state of emergency in response to a supposed threat from the island to national security.
