“I am truly grateful for his support and what he says about me,” the president stated, referring to a letter released last night by the former president (2018-2024), who described her as “the best president Mexico has had in our time.”
During her regular press conference, the head of the Executive Branch addressed the case of Chihuahua, governed by the opposition National Action Party (PAN), where two U.S. agents participated in an activity on state territory without accreditation. This came to light in April after an accident in which they died.
The Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation into possible violations of the law, and shortly thereafter, the United States requested the provisional arrest for extradition purposes of 10 current and former Mexican officials without presenting any evidence to support the request.
“This has never happened in Mexico. Never. This has unleashed a very strong campaign that continues on social media and practically all media outlets, with some exceptions, which are calling it a ‘narco-party’ and a ‘narco-government,’” the president denounced this Thursday.
In his view, they are seizing upon this rhetoric originating from the far right in the United States, linked to a faction within the government, with the purpose of using Mexico as part of their campaign strategy in the November elections there, and to ally themselves with conservatism here in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
Lopez Obrador pointed to the existence of political and electoral interests behind the United States’ attack on this nation and expressed his support for Sheinbaum, whom he praised for her efficiency, responsibility, prudence, and respect.
