Nabil Abu Rudeina, official spokesman for the Palestinian Presidency, denounced the escalation of violence by Jewish extremists in the West Bank.
He warned that this offensive threatens to thwart any international effort to achieve stability in the region, blamed on the Israeli authorities for the serious repercussions of these attacks, which he described as terrorist acts.
In this regard, he accused the Israeli army of protecting and supporting settler aggression in the West Bank as part of a “systematic policy aimed at imposing a fait accompli and consolidating the occupation.”
The Middle East will continue to suffer the ravages of war if a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian problem, based on UN Security Council resolutions on the issue, is not reached, he asserted.
The spokesman called on the world, especially the United States, to intervene immediately to force Israel “to cease its aggressive policies and halt settlement activity in all its forms.”
According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, more than 778,000 Jews live in over 150 settlements in the West Bank, including more than 333,000 in East Jerusalem, despite global condemnation of this expansionist policy.
