Parlatino warns of US threats on Cuba

Panama City, June 5 (Prensa Latina) The Board of Directors of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) warned of what it called a real and dangerous threat of the use of military force, alluding to recent statements by US authorities.

The regional legislature, presided over by Rolando Gonzalez, approved a declaration reaffirming its commitment to the principles of International Law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the principles of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

In this regard, it points out that this escalation against the island is compounded by the recent executive orders of US President Donald Trump, which intensify, to extreme levels, the economic, commercial, and financial blockade; the energy embargo; and other unilateral coercive measures that are part of a policy of unjustified strangulation.

The impact of this policy damages the quality of life of citizens, compromises the right to life, and creates a situation that exacerbates collective suffering, the statement specifies.

In the document, Parlatino urges the use of dialogue and negotiation.

In this regard, it calls on the parties involved, legislators who defend peace and human rights, and civil society to prevent military action against the Caribbean nation, which would provoke a humanitarian catastrophe and destabilize the region as a Zone of Peace with incalculable consequences.

“Parlatino stands with the peoples of the region and their right to development, democracy, self-determination, and peace,” the statement emphasizes.
