The competition featured 221 students from 16 countries, and Cuba was the most wining medal Latin American country, with three, followed by Venezuela that reached one.
In Informatics, Mauricio Cruz won the silver medal, while Andy Ernesto Sanchez took the bronze. Both are ninth-graders from Villa Clara province.
Meanwhile, in Mathematics, Alejandro Martinez, also a ninth-grade student from Camagüey province, won the bronze medal.
The Caribbean nation attended the 4th Al Khwarizmi Olympiad in Uzbekistan with a team of eight ninth and tenth-grade students under 15 and a half years of age, organized into two teams of four members each: one for Mathematics and the other for Computer Science.
Despite being the first time that Cuban students attended an event of this kind, the Caribbean nation’s team arrived well-prepared and achieved results considered significant for such a high-level competition.
