Cubans in Nicaragua decry US sanctions on Diaz-Canel

Managua, June 7 (Prensa Latina) The Antonio Maceo Community of Cuban Residents in Nicaragua condemned the sanctions imposed by the United States government against President Miguel Diaz-Canel, members of his family, and organizations in the Caribbean nation.

In a statement released on social media, the group denounced the hostility of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio toward Cuba, evidenced by the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, as well as the oil embargo.

The community noted that the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), recently sanctioned along with the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), are the largest mass organization in the country, representing more than six million Cubans.

It added that these sanctions violate all international laws and attempt to create dangerous conditions to justify armed aggression.

“We remind you, imperialist gentlemen, that the Cuban army and the people have given the order to fight at all times, and the word surrender does not exist,” he stated.

In this regard, they recalled the events in Venezuela on January 3, when 32 Cuban combatants died confronting U.S. forces during the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. None of them surrendered, and they fought to the last bullet, the statement emphasized.

“In Cuba, they will have to wipe us off the face of the earth, and as Maceo said: ‘Whoever tries to seize Cuba will gather the dust of its soil, soaked in blood, if they do not perish in the struggle,’” the text emphasized.
