The presidents of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the United States, Donald Trump, had a telephone conversation on February 12, 2025, the first after the Republican magnate took office, who had promised, among other objectives, to end hostilities between Moscow and Kyiv.
The two leaders have had, since then, several telephone calls and, met in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15, for a summit that lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
White House Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, made several visits to Russia, while the Kremlin’s envoy for international economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, held productive meetings with US representatives in the United States and Switzerland.
