Iranian state television reported the explosions, while the semi-official Mehr news agency claimed that air defenses shot down a “hostile” drone over Tehran.
Local media also reported that the city of Isfahan and the Kabudar Ahang area in Hamadan province were targeted, although no details have yet been released regarding possible damage or casualties.
The incidents come after Iran launched a series of missile attacks against northern Israel in response to Israeli airstrikes carried out hours earlier against targets in central and western Iran.
For its part, the Israeli army reported that it carried out a large-scale air operation targeting Iranian strategic air defense systems.
The new escalation began after the launching of several barrages of Iranian missiles against northern Israel, an action that Tehran linked to the Israeli attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut, where Tel Aviv claimed to have struck a Hezbollah command and planning center.
Following these events, Iranian authorities hardened their rhetoric.
The Speaker of Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, declared that US and Israeli bases and assets in the region are “legitimate targets,” while Revolutionary Guard officials warned that Israeli actions “will not go unpunished.”
