The General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs Commission welcomed Xi Jinping at Kim Il-sung Square in this capital.

The square displayed portraits of both leaders and slogans in Chinese and Korean promoting bilateral friendship.

Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were received with military honors and an honor guard from the Korean People’s Army (KPA).

Military bands played the national anthems of the two nations, and a 21-gun salute was fired.

The Chinese president, accompanied by Kim Jong-un, reviewed the honor guard and later watched a parade.

The two leaders walked the red carpet and greeted the attendees at the conclusion of the event.

The visit, which will continue until Jun 9, takes place in a context of close political ties between China and the DPRK, whose ruling parties maintain regular exchanges and a long-standing cooperative relationship.
