Belarus reaffirms support for Cuba

Minsk, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) The Speaker of the Belarusian House of Representatives, Igor Sergeyenko, told the Cuban ambassador in Minsk, Santiago Perez, that his country maintains firm support for the Caribbean nation, Prensa Latina learned about.

According to the Cuban diplomat, Sergeyenko noted that meetings between the parliamentary body and the representative from Havana have become a well-established tradition, and are held both bilaterally and in a broader format.

“Belarus gives top importance to the development and strengthening of relations with Cuba. The foundation for developing fruitful cooperation is dialogue at the highest level between the Heads of State,” the Speaker of the House of Representatives stated.

He emphasized that the meeting held at the end of May in Astana between the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, and the Vice President of Cuba, Salvador Valdés Mesa, constituted a confirmation of these fraternal relations, as well as of Belarus’s actions and words.

In the meeting held in the House of Representatives, it was also noted that Belarus is observing with concern the events on Cuba, as well as the way the situation is escalating.

He also stated that it is currently difficult to foresee how events will unfold. At the same time, he assured the diplomat that Belarus will always stand with Cuba. “The main thing is that the processes taking place do not lead to a potential humanitarian crisis in the near future,” he affirmed.

He further remembered that, by order of the head of state, the government is preparing to send humanitarian aid to Cuba, including agricultural products and medicines.
