Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian affirmed that the document shows the intention of some Japanese political forces to boost large-scale military expansion.
Lin noted that the international community, including China, is observing these trends with great concern and vigilance.
The spokesperson also stated that social sectors, public figures, and pacifist groups within Japan have also expressed concern and opposition to these proposals.
The project was approved on June 9 during a meeting of the LDP’s General Council.
The text mentions the regional security situation and China’s military activities, and proposes a substantial increase in defense spending.
The proposal also cites plans by NATO member countries to raise their military budgets to 3.5 percent of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Lin stated that these arguments are intended to justify, in the eyes of Japanese and international public opinion, the acceleration of a remilitarization process.
