A message from the Cuban Foreign Ministry extended its warmest congratulations, while reiterating the Caribbean nation’s commitment to “deepening the relations of respect and cooperation between our countries.”
Cuba and Portugal established diplomatic relations on May 6, 1919, although, according to their respective foreign ministries, these relations had formally existed since 1902.
Following the Carnation Revolution of April 25, 1974, Havana and Lisbon intensified their exchanges in various spheres and elevated their ambassadors to the rank of ambassador, according to the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s website.
Every June 10th, Portugal celebrates its National Day in commemoration of the great Portuguese writer and poet Luís de Camões, who died on this date in 1850.
