The event brings together renowned intellectuals and cartoonists from the island nation, such as Victor Fowler, Jorge Angel Hernandez, Aristides Hernandez (Ares), Ismael Lema, and Adan Iglesias, moderated by journalist Michel Torres.
The organizers announced that the debates will focus on the role of graphic and literary humor in the face of hegemonic discourses and its capacity to generate emancipatory narratives.
An exhibition honoring Pedro Mendez, winner of the 2018 National Humor Prize, will be open, commemorating his 80th birthday and his extensive career, leading the Melaito humor publication.
In the opening ceremony, the competition’s Awards were presented to international artists Elena Ospina (Colombia), for her work “America”; Kuang Zuhai (China), for his creation “Variacion”; Ivan Lira (Venezuela), for “Enredos”; and a special mention was given to Seyran Caferli, from Azerbaijan.
The 2nd International Biennial of Political Humor will run until June 14, featuring works from 38 countries and several venues in Havana and the western Artemisa province.
