Russian Duma denounces US aggression policy against Cuba

Moscow, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) The State Duma (the lower house of the Russian Parliament) approved a resolution calling on the United Nations and legislative assemblies around the world regarding the intensification of the US aggression policy toward Cuba.

The document, adopted by the Duma in its plenary session, notes a drastic increase in tensions surrounding Cuba due to the unprecedented pressure from the United States, which is unjustified and contrary to international law.

The text states that the continued economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, compounded by the energy blockade that has exacerbated the hardships of the Cuban people, is a blatant interference in the domestic affairs of a sovereign nation and an example of illegitimate restrictions that contravene the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Russian lawmakers view the ostentatious deployment of a US naval air strike group in the Caribbean as particularly alarming, an inappropriate measure aimed at imposing unacceptable conditions on the Cuban Government through economic and military blackmail, paving the way for a change of power in Cuba, and ultimately establishing total control over the country.

The Lower House of the Russian Parliament reaffirms its support for the Cuban people and government in their selfless struggle for independence and the right to choose their own path of development.

It also reiterates its commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between Moscow and Havana, mutual assistance, and cooperation in several fields.

It also calls upon the UN, legislative assemblies worldwide, and international parliamentary organizations to decry the current US policy toward Cuba and urge Washington to lift the economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade imposed on the island.
