The CUT specified in its call to action that the event will take place in public squares throughout the country with the lighting of candles and lanterns as a symbol of hope, resistance, and the defense of the people’s rights.

The labor organization emphasized that this mobilization will also be an expression of support for Ivan Cepeda, the presidential candidate proposing the continuation of social and democratic transformations in Colombia.

It stated in its press release, “We call for this great expression of mobilization and popular hope to be reflected at the ballot box, making citizen participation a decisive force to defend democracy, the rights of the working class, and the continuation of change.”

The CUT warned that De la Espriella’s presidential campaign proposes firing 700,000 public employees.
