The Cuban ambassador told Prensa Latina that the meeting with Orsi was “respectful and cordial” and highlighted the Uruguayan president’s concern about the situation on the Caribbean island.
“I explained to him the tightening of the blockade following President Donald Trump’s two executive orders and the dangers of military aggression against our country,” the diplomat said.
“Furthermore,” she noted, “I pointed out that there is a very strong media war being waged against Cuba, which aims to demonize it.”
Regarding this, she added, the Uruguayan head of state said he would stay informed through his Minister of Foreign Affairs. “The main topic of discussion was the blockade, and I conveyed to him its effects on hospitals, transportation, and the daily lives of Cubans,” Perez added.
The diplomat stated that Orsi admitted that this is a humanitarian issue that will have to be addressed in some way within the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the Group of 77 + China, where Uruguay holds the pro tempore presidency.
The representative of the Caribbean island expressed her gratitude for the Uruguayan government’s donation of 12 tons of powdered milk, as well as the solidarity of the people of this South American country, demonstrated through support campaigns.
Lissett Perez also serves as her country’s Permanent Representative to the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI), which is headquartered in this capital.
