In a social media post, the Brazilian president shared details of the dialogue, in which, he stated that the two leaders confirmed their stance in favor of ending the embargo maintained by Washington against the island for more than six decades.
Lula also expressed that they shared their concern about the serious humanitarian situation in the Caribbean country.
The two leaders have repeatedly expressed their support for Cuba amid the intensification of the blockade, which includes multidimensional pressure against the island by the Donald Trump administration.
According to information provided by the head of state and also released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conversation also included a review of the progress made on cooperation and political dialogue commitments undertaken by both governments in recent months. “We highlight the productive negotiations related to the energy cooperation agenda, which ranges from collaboration on biofuels to the potential signing of an agreement between Pemex and Petrobras,” Lula emphasized.
He added that they agreed to deepen discussions on the bilateral legal framework for trade and acknowledged the progress made in collaboration in the areas of health, tourism, public governance, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the science, technology, and innovation sectors.
