“India is the country with which we share an alliance, with which we are developing trade and economic ties in every possible area. Dialogue is underway, even on the most sensitive issues,” the spokesman declared this Thursday at his usual press conference.
Peskov also added that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the longest-serving prime minister in modern Indian history.
June 11 marks 4,400 days since Modi was sworn in as prime minister. This occurred on May 26, 2014.
In doing so, he surpassed the achievement of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India, who held office for 4,398 consecutive days, from May 13, 1952, when he was sworn in after the country’s first general elections, until his death on May 27, 1964. This record stood for more than six decades.
“He leads the world’s largest democracy. He comes from ordinary people, and his career path has elevated him to the position of leader of the world’s most populous nation, with nearly 1.5 billion inhabitants,” the high-ranking Russian official noted.
The Russian presidential spokesperson emphasized that, during Modi’s term, 250 million people in India have been lifted out of extreme poverty, and the country has become one of the world’s leading economic powers.
“We hope that Prime Minister Modi will continue to contribute to the development of Russian-Indian relations,” the high-ranking official added.
