Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian stated that the high-ranking Philippine official represents a small group of political figures who hold positions contrary to China.
Lin affirmed that the actions of that group harm the national interests of the Philippines and affect the well-being of its people.
The spokesperson also noted that the actions of those individuals have contributed to the intensification of disputes between the two countries and the deterioration of bilateral ties.
Beijing recently announced sanctions on Teodoro that prohibit him from entering mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Bilateral relations have experienced periods of tension in the last few years due to disagreements over maritime issues in the South China Sea, a strategic area where both nations maintain divergent claims and positions.
