Pakistan remains confident in diplomatic solution to regional crisis

Islamabad, Jun 12 (Prensa Latina) Pakistan remains hopeful for a diplomatic solution to the crisis in the Middle East, despite the recent escalation and the reduced space for talks resulting from renewed hostilities, authorities declared.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi affirmed that Islamabad remains committed and is working with a positive attitude, which he considered essential for a mediator or facilitator.

He noted that Pakistan remains deeply concerned about the recent escalation in the Middle East and the tension in the Gulf region.

He urged the parties to respect ceasefire agreements and avoid the expansion of hostilities, in order to create space for dialogue and diplomacy.

Andrabi pointed out that Pakistan is continuing its mediation efforts with key partners and mentioned the recent visits and telephone conversations between Islamabad and other governments, including Interior Minister Muhammad Asif’s visit to Tehran.

Similarly, he reported on the telephone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, in which they analyzed the evolving regional situation and emphasized on the importance of talks and restraint.

Both expressed their hope of reaching an understanding among all parties that will contribute to peace and stability in the region, he noted.
