Raul highlighted in his message the performance, unity, and discipline of this branch of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) in protecting national sovereignty.
He also remembered its historic contribution to consolidating revolutionary achievements and underscored the need to maintain preparedness against any external threat.
Raul also stressed that the founding date of the Western Army is especially significant because it coincides with the birthdays of Antonio Maceo and Ernesto “Che” Guevara, which is an honor for those who defend the freedom and sovereignty of the homeland.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the armed forces to recovery efforts following natural disasters and other social and economic actions.
The revolutionary leader emphasized that the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, founded the Western Army on June 14, 1961, and appointed Guillermo Garcia Frias, Commander of the Revolution and Hero of the Republic of Cuba, as its head.
