Arturo O’Farril praises Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba

Havana, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) Renowned Mexican-American musician Arturo O’Farril affirmed that the art of Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC) is a treasure for the world.

“These dancers are like a ray of hope for the planet,” he expressed emotionally at the conclusion of a demonstration in the main rehearsal hall of the company, which, in 2026, celebrates its 35th anniversary since its founding by director, teacher, and choreographer Lizt Alfonso.

LADC performed an excerpt from Fuerza y Compás, with music by Reynier Mariño; Alas para volar (from the show Alas), with a composition by Denis Peralta, Yuniel Rascon, Damian Nueva, Yordanis O’Reilly, and Juan Pablo Salas; and Almas en procesion (from the show Latido), with music by Cesar Lopez.

All the choreographies were created by Lizt Alfonso, while the LADC Children’s Ballet presented “Alevosia,” a work by Ivette Coca, and the Youth Ballet, along with the Teaching Artistic Group, presented “Level’s,” by Keyla Cruz.

During a visit to LADC’s headquarters in the heart of Old Havana, the renowned pianist, composer, and conductor, a multiple Grammy Award winner, confessed that the children’s and young people’s performance conveyed hope to him and compared it to a ray of love.

“When they were dancing, the hatred in the world was being killed,” O’Farril told Alfonso, who revealed her own creed: “If everyone could see something like this, there would be peace in the world,” she declared.

“This is dangerous for those who hate, because if they see these young people dancing, they wouldn’t be able to hate; they would be forced to celebrate,” emphasized the son of the legendary Cuban musician Chico O’Farril.
