The event, organized by the United Left Movement (MIU), coincides with the anniversary of the June 14 and 20, 1959 expeditions, patriotic actions organized to liberate the Dominican Republic from the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, in which the Cuban revolutionary participated.

The book, written by Cuban journalist Wilmer Rodriguez, recounts, in 15 chapters, the family history of Delio Gómez Ochoa, his beginnings in student activism, his involvement in the underground resistance in Cuba, and later his participation in the guerrilla movement led by Fidel Castro in the Sierra Maestra mountains of eastern Cuba.

The book is the result of several interviews with the commander and reveals to the reader one of the most important missions he undertook: serving as an advisor to Dominican, Cuban, and other revolutionaries who participated in the anti-Trujillo expeditions to Constanza, Maimon, and Estero Hondo in June 1959.

Its protagonist remembers his arrival in the Dominican Republic in June 1959, his capture after a month of fighting in the mountains, the horrors he endured in prison, and his release in 1961, which marked his return to Cuba. Although the expedition was militarily defeated, it constituted a moral victory that helped create the conditions for the events that years later would culminate in the end of the Trujillo dictatorship.
