“On the anniversary of Che Guevara’s birth, we remember a revolutionary whose life became synonymous with courage, internationalism, and an unwavering struggle against exploitation and injustice,” the political organization emphasized on the social media platform X.
Born on June 14, 1928, in Rosario, Argentina, Ernesto Guevara de la Serna was an Argentine-Cuban revolutionary fighter, statesman, writer, and physician whose life he dedicated to the just causes of the world. His conduct and thought have become a paradigm for millions of men and women.
He was part of the Granma yacht expedition led by Fidel Castro, which began the armed struggle against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship in the mountains of Oriente, Cuba.
In the early years of the Revolution, he was appointed president of the National Bank of Cuba and Minister of Industries, and he led Cuban delegations that visited various countries, including India, where he is remembered with great affection as a role model and revolutionary.
This coming June 30th will mark the 67th anniversary of Che’s trip to India, which took place just six months after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, with Fidel Castro’s mission to forge political and economic ties between the two countries.
India’s recognition of the newly installed government in Havana paved the way for the Argentine-Cuban guerrilla’s visit to the South Asian nation, which helped consolidate bilateral diplomatic relations.
