The Training Course on Advanced Mass Balance Modeling using Radon, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), brought together specialists from several countries to refine techniques for understanding the relationship between groundwater and surface water, such as rivers and lakes, the Cuban institution told Prensa Latina.
In the course, participants combined lectures and practical exercises to organize sampling campaigns, process data, and apply models that estimate groundwater inflow into surface ecosystems.
The training emphasized clear documentation of methods and the recognition of error margins, ensuring transparency and reliability in the results.
The IAEA’s Division of Physical and Chemical Sciences coordinated the course, ensuring a rigorous approach and high academic standards.
Engineer Israel David Cedeno Fernandez, a Research Candidate at CEAC, emphasized that “the training received in Vienna strengthens our technical skills and allows us to integrate advanced modeling tools into hydrogeological studies of great importance to Cuba.”
With this participation, CEAC reaffirms its commitment to scientific excellence and international cooperation for the protection of natural resources and the country’s sustainable development.
